Immunity and Oxidative Stress – Oxidative stress can be the enemy of immunity!

This time I would like to talk about immunity. Immunity is a defense system that we have in our bodies.

There are often articles that say, “Boost your immune system!”  The immune system is very important for our healthy life. Immunity is very important for a healthy life, and oxidative stress has a great deal to do with it.

What is immunity?

The immune system protects us from germs and bacteria that enter our body, and detects cancer cells that form in our body every day and kills them before they become cancerous.

Allergies are also well known. When the immune system is out of balance, hay fever, which causes sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes, occurs in response to pollen, which should not cause allergies. I’m sure many of you have heard that hay fever is related to immunity.

In my previous article, “Is Hay Fever Related to Oxidative Stress?” also introduces the mechanism of hay fever and immune balance.

It is very important for a healthy life that the immune system is in good condition and that the immune system is well balanced.

Immunity and Oxidative Stress

Immunity and oxidative stress are very closely related.

For the immune system, a high level of oxidative stress, which increases the rusting of the body, is a very difficult environment to work in.

This is because our white blood cells, which are the main work of immune cells, are damaged by oxidative stress, and high oxidative stress causes imbalance in the immune system.

So, what happens to our body when the white blood cells that are responsible for immune function are damaged and the immune system is out of balance?

Naturally, we become more susceptible to germs and bacteria. It also makes it easier for cancers to form, which were supposed to be warded off by the immune system. In addition, allergic diseases will also increase and a negative chain of events will occur.

Diabetes and Immunity

Diabetes is a disease in which insulin does not work properly, resulting in high blood sugar levels. In fact, it is said that the probability of developing cancer increases two to four times in people with diabetes compared to those without diabetes. Why is that?

As I have mentioned before, oxidative stress jumps up when blood sugar levels become high.

Reference article: Oxidative stress is your worst enemy! Why does oxidative stress increase when blood sugar levels rise?

In other words, when a person becomes diabetic, oxidative stress is chronically higher than in people who are not diabetic, so that the immune system does not function properly, and cancer, which should have been prevented, is more likely to form. In addition, hay fever, an allergic disease, increases, and asthma also increases, creating a “negative chain of events”.

Therefore, lowering oxidative stress is very important to protect the immune system and maintain a good balance in the immune system.

Finally.

Oxidative stress is a major enemy to activate the immune system. When exposed to oxidative stress, the immune system’s natural defense function does not function properly, and various symptoms appear.

In addition, if the immune system is not able to kill cancer cells, which is a major role of the immune system, the possibility of developing cancer increases. Cancer has the highest mortality rate among all diseases and is the leading cause of death among Japanese people. Immunity is very important to protect the body from these cancer cells.
