The Evidence Generation Committee of the Japanese Society for the Prevention of Dementia recognizes Twendee X as the first “Grade A (★★★)” supplement.
The Japan Society for the Prevention of Dementia (JSDP) (Head office: Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, President: Katsuya Uragami), which aims to prevent dementia and create evidence, has certified “Twendee X”, manufactured and sold by TIMA Tokyo (Head office: Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, President: Sho Tanaka), as the first “Grade A (★★★)” dietary supplement in its six-grade certification.

Background
Although Alzheimer’s disease is considered to be impossible to cure once it develops, there is a preliminary stage of dementia called mild cognitive impairment (MCI). However, there is a preliminary stage of dementia called mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Since MCI is not dementia, it is not possible to prescribe therapeutic drugs using health insurance. And if left untreated, there is no way to stop the progression of dementia. It generally takes about 25 years for the disease to progress to dementia. (Figure 1)
The approval of the conference was granted on August 24, 2019, by the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (JAD), an American academic journal on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, which published an article on the “Preventive Effect of the Antioxidant Supplement Twendee X on Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). The results of the review are based on the acceptance of the paper jointly published in JAD by a group led by Professor Koji Abe of the Department of Neurology, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Okayama University and Professor Haruhiko Inufusa of the Department of Antioxidant Research, Center for Scientific Research, Gifu University.

Contents of the paper
Oxidative stress, which is said to be the cause of body rusting and aging, has been considered to have an important role in MCI and early Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
Twendee X, an antioxidant supplement containing eight antioxidants, significantly alleviated amyloid-β deposition, nerve loss, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation in a mouse model of AD caused by chronic cerebral hypoperfusion and ischemic stroke. A clinical trial was conducted by the Japanese Society for the Prevention of Dementia (JSDA) at eight facilities across Japan to verify the preventive effect on cognitive decline in humans, and the MMSE and the Hasegawa Disability Scale (HDS-R), an index of cognitive ability, improved significantly. The clinical trial was conducted in a double-blind, randomized controlled trial, a medically reliable research method. While single antioxidant vitamins C and E did not show any clinical effect on dementia, TWX, an antioxidant combination consisting of eight different active ingredients, showed more potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects than single antioxidant vitamins and clearly improved the cognitive function of the subjects. The results were published in a paper.

Supplementary information and explanation of terms
1) MMSE: A 30-point cognitive function test consisting of 11 items: time disorientation, place disorientation, immediate and delayed replay of 3 words, calculation, object calling, sentence recitation, 3-step verbal commands, writing commands, writing, and figure copying. 23 or lower on the MMSE is suspicious for dementia, and 27 or lower for mild cognitive impairment (MCI). MMSE scores of 23 or below are suspected of dementia, and scores of 27 or below are suspected of mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

It is one of the cognitive function tests used in the diagnosis of dementia. It consists of nine items including disorientation, memory, etc. A score of 20 or below on a 30-point scale is considered to raise the suspicion of dementia. A score of 20 or less on a 30-point scale is considered to raise the suspicion of dementia, while a score of 20 or more is considered mild dementia, a score of 11 to 19 is considered moderate dementia, and a score of 10 or less is considered severe dementia.

Although the production and accumulation of garbage such as amyloid-β and tau protein that accumulate in the brain is an important phenomenon in dementia, oxidative stress is considered to be even more important.
In addition to dementia, oxidative stress is also known to be a cause of many other diseases such as inflammatory diseases such as hepatitis and pancreatitis, allergic diseases, cancer, diabetes, and arteriosclerosis, and we plan to conduct clinical research on these diseases as well.
About Twendee X, an antioxidant combination drug
Twendee X is an antioxidant combination product that has been shown to be effective in a number of animal and human clinical studies, and has been presented at the Japanese Society of Anti-Aging Research, the Japanese Society for Functional Food Medicine, and the American Cancer Society. Twendee X has been recognized by the ICDD, a French antioxidant research organization, as “the most effective antioxidant combination in the world without side effects”, and research and development is still ongoing. Clinical studies are planned for many more diseases in the future.

The Japan Society for the Prevention of Dementia was established in 2011 to disseminate practical dementia prevention activities, develop human resources involved in dementia prevention, promote multidisciplinary cooperation and regional collaboration, and generate evidence for dementia prevention. An Evidence Generation Committee was set up to verify sufficient medical evidence, and the effectiveness of the prevention is judged on the basis of six certification grades (Special A, A, B, C, D, E).
