Which countries have the most advanced antioxidant research?

This time, I would like to talk about antioxidant research. From a global perspective, Japan is still not a country where antioxidant research is advanced.

This section will explain the countries that excel in this antioxidant research.

Countries with advanced antioxidant research

France is the most advanced country in the world in antioxidant research.

The International Society for Oxidative Stress Research has been held in Paris, France for many years, and antioxidant research is also being conducted as a national project, and the relationship between oxidative stress and various diseases is being studied. In addition, the development of instruments to measure oxidative stress in the body is clearly advanced in France.

Dr. Christian Amatore of the French Academy of Sciences, who is supervising our antioxidant research in Gifu University Antioxidant research department , is also a leading researcher in antioxidant research and has developed an instrument that can measure oxidative stress from a single cell. Currently, Dr. Amatore is collaborating with Dr. Montagnier, who won the Nobel Prize for discovering the AIDS virus at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.

Antioxidant Research in Japan

Antioxidant research in Japan started in the 1970s with the study of lipid peroxides, which was followed by further research on free radical reactions. The most active researcher on oxidative stress in Japan is Dr. Toshikazu Yoshikawa, former president of Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, who has now retired. He has written many books and papers that have become textbooks on oxidative stress, and is known worldwide for his research on reactive oxygen species and free radicals.

He was also involved in the establishment of the Japanese chapter of the International Society for Free Radical Research. Currently, the International Society for Free Radical Research has changed its name to the Japan Society for Oxidative Stress Research, and he has served as its president since 2002 and is currently serving as its honorary chairman.

from now on

Recently, it has become relatively easy to measure oxidative stress in the body with relative ease. As a result, more and more universities and research facilities will be conducting research in this field. I believe that oxidative stress research will become a research field that will further contribute to human health and longevity.
