Collaborative research with Gifu University Antioxidant research department

In this article, I would like to talk about the Gifu University Antioxidant research department , which is researching oxidative stress.

Currently, our research division is conducting antioxidant research not only in Japan but also overseas with many researchers and collaborators. In this article, I would like to introduce the research of our department and its collaborators.

Antioxidant Research in Gifu University Antioxidant research department

Today, we are in the age of 100-year-life, and there are many people who are over 100 years old. In Japan, there are more than 60,000 people who are over 100 years old. However, if there are too many people who are bedridden or need nursing care, the society will collapse. That is why it is now important to live a long and healthy life.

It is known that aging and various diseases are related to oxidative stress (the rusting of the body). In order to resist oxidative stress, which causes the body to rust, it is very important to increase the body’s natural antioxidant capacity in order to live a long and healthy life and prevent diseases.

Therefore, research on suppressing oxidative stress should lead to the prevention and treatment of various diseases, and ultimately to the healthy extension of human life. To this end, our research division is conducting research on the relationship between oxidative stress and various diseases, as well as on the preventive treatment of diseases using antioxidants.

Co-investigators

Working with Dr. Toshikazu Yoshikawa, President of the Louis Pasteur Medical Research Center

Dr. Yoshikawa (M.D.) is a leading researcher of oxidative stress who has done the most oxidative stress research in Japan.

When I started my antioxidant research, I actually did not know about Dr. Yoshikawa at all. However, in 2014, I was in charge of a luncheon seminar at the Japanese Society of Anti-Aging Medicine, and I wanted a leading expert in oxidative stress research to chair the seminar, so a doctor I knew introduced me to Dr. Yoshikawa.

When I asked Dr. Yoshikawa for help, he saw the contents of my oxidative stress research and said, “This is very important and will lead to research that will help many people”. He said, “This is very important and will lead to research that will help many people, so let’s definitely collaborate in the future”. Since then, I have been receiving his guidance on antioxidant research.

Also, since Dr. Yoshikawa was the president of Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, he introduced me to a wide range of top-class doctors, many of whom were interested in oxidative stress. With the help of these people, we are now conducting a wider range of clinical research and research on oxidative stress-related diseases.

Working with Dr. Christian Amatore, Member of the French Academy of Sciences

Dr. Christian Amatore is an outstanding scientist, a member of the French Academy and a recipient of the Legion of Honor.

Dr. Amatore has developed an instrument to measure oxidative stress using scientific electrical methods, and has made remarkable achievements in AIDS research and cancer research. I met Dr. Amatore by chance at the airfield.

At the time we met, I didn’t know much about oxidative stress, so I learned a lot from Dr. Amatore, who taught me the basics of oxidative stress and how it works chemically.

He has been an advisor to the TIMA Foundation since June 2018, so I am sure he will be able to teach us more in the future.

Support Foundation

About TIMA Foundation

The TIMA Foundation is a foundation that supports our research department.

It is a medical foundation located in Liechtenstein, Germany and is chaired by Count Markus Matuska-Greifenklau.

The TIMA Foundation was established to help people suffering from rare diseases by funding medical research that major pharmaceutical companies are not involved in. So far, we have achieved great results in the development of gene therapy for brain tumors and drugs that can effectively treat drug-resistant bacteria that have become ineffective against antibacterial drugs.

They have also provided research support for the oxidative stress research that we are currently conducting.

Finally.

We have introduced some of the people who are cooperating with us this time, but there are many more cooperators and support groups, and we would like to introduce them little by little.

In addition, we will be introducing new findings on oxidative stress and diseases related to oxidative stress on this site as well.
