If your TG (triglycerides) are high, watch the carbohydrates, not the fats!

Some people have a high TG (triglyceride) level in their blood tests. TG (triglyceride) is one of the lipids called triglycerides, and blood tests are used to check how much TG (triglyceride) is in the blood.

In addition to TG (triglycerides), there are other lipid items that can be checked in blood tests, such as HDL cholesterol (HDL-chol) and LDL cholesterol (LDL-chol).

TG (triglyceride) plays an important role in providing energy and maintaining body temperature, but if the TG (triglyceride) value is higher than the standard value, there is a possibility of dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis, fatty liver and diabetes.

If the TG (triglyceride) level is higher than the standard value, you may have dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis, fatty liver or diabetes.

How can I lower my TG (triglycerides)?

I’m sure there are people who think that they need to take care of their lifestyle because their TG (triglycerides) came out higher than the standard value in their blood test, even though their weight is at the standard level….

TG (triglyceride) is a fat called triglyceride, so some of you may think that eating fat will raise TG (triglyceride). However, TG (triglycerides) increase not because of fat, but because of carbohydrates.

When you eat a lot of carbohydrates such as rice, bread, pasta, etc., they are broken down and become TG (triglycerides). So instead of stopping eating fat, stop eating carbohydrates and your TG (triglycerides) will go down.

In the same way, people who are said to have hyperlipidemia even though their body weight is within the proper range can also be improved by restricting carbohydrates.

How much carbohydrate restriction is needed?

There are many different types of carbohydrate restriction.

One of them is called “super carbohydrate restriction”. This means that the daily intake of carbohydrates is limited to 5g or less. This is the type of carbohydrate restriction that is mainly practiced by cancer patients, and it is very hard.

The next strictest carbohydrate restriction is to limit your sugar intake to 40g or less per day. One hundred grams of rice contains 36.8 grams of carbohydrates, and a 150 gram bowl of rice contains 55.2 grams. From this point of view, limiting daily carbohydrate intake to 40g is also a very strict carbohydrate restriction.

There is a more lenient type of carbohydrate restriction where the daily carbohydrate intake is limited to 81g or less, and a more lenient type where the daily carbohydrate intake is limited to 120g or less, but the carbohydrate restriction for the purpose of dieting or improving lifestyle-related diseases is usually said to be 80g to 120g per day.

However, 80 to 120 grams of carbohydrates per day is too much carbohydrate intake for people with diabetes. If you are diabetic and experience various symptoms, I think you should follow a more stringent carbohydrate restriction.

Finally

If your blood test shows that your TG (triglyceride) level is higher than the norm even though you are within the appropriate weight range, and you want to improve your lifestyle, I recommend that you limit your sugar intake.

Carbohydrate restriction has a lot to do with oxidative stress, as I have mentioned in past articles.

What is the difference between “oxidation” and “glycation”?

It is important to reduce oxidative stress in order to maintain good health. Incorporating sugar restriction and other factors into your daily diet related to this is good for longevity and health maintenance.
